Drink Whiskey and Dance! Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe & PierYves Décoste This unjust and complex world does have its toll Too many people and music with a lack of soul You feel the need to shout, everyone here feels the same Let’s make this easy, it’s real simple, here’s what we’ll do We’re gonna drink whiskey, play Whiskeybillie tonight But we ain’t got no time for no Whiskeybillie songs if you ain’t having fun Drink whiskey and dance! Let’s unify, good people, put your differences aside It’s a damn cutthroat world but most of us are kind So put a smile on your face, the one you have misplaced, And join us for this moment, without you it’s not the same

Zodiac 04:12
Zodiac Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe The Jade Emperor called to the creatures “A great race is on in the morning”! Twelve signs, twelve years for the victors! He said “I call upon the powerful and the loyal. The rebellious, magnanimous and the tactful.” Twelve signs, twelve years for the winners! As the sun rose all the animals met on the shore of that mighty river One chance to get across and make your mark for the years of the zodiac -And they’re off! Rat and cat climbed upon the oxen’s back, and sang a song as he swam along Rat pushed cat in the river but (he) could not swim. A drowned cat, in fact, cannot take the win “Now why the dragon, that beautiful flying creature, did not finish first?” Asked the Jade Emperor -I made it rain! “For all the one’s left behind, ‘cause I’m so kind so I took the time!” Snake wrapped around a horses hoof, three sailed a raft across. All for the honored glory! Twelve signs, twelve years, for the zodiac All at once they race across that mighty river Twelve signs, twelve years for the victors! The Emperor smiled for he had seen the kindness of some and the cunning of others The race has ended and he rose and he called out the twelve names for the years of the zodiac In first place there was the rat. Followed by the ox, then that mighty tiger Then the rabbit and the beautiful dragon, followed by the snake who startled the horse -For the zodiac! The goat, the ape, the rooster, they worked together -That’s fuckin’ teamwork! Splish, splash the dog took a bath, he almost finished last But it was the pig to complete the years of the zodiac

Amaterasu 04:20
Amaterasu Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe Amaterasu, Shinto sun Goddess, shining heaven, the eldest, radiant Begot from her father’s left eye. Sent to the heavens, so the sun did shine She never gets to see the moon Goddess (her) sister, from her father’s right eye, so the moon did shine Her brother, the Storm God of the sea, in a fit of rage he went mad and ravaged the country Amaterasu, Goddess of light, hear them scream as they suffer blight Did they annoy you little kami, you ran away sad, sealed in by a boulder in the cave where you hide Kenkay, yukay, no more sun rays. Shadows fill the days where the succubus now play Shinto Goddess you’re costing us our lives! Damn you Omikami, by depriving us your light! Storm God of the sea drove her into the cave But Ama-no-Iwato cannot be her grave It was the Storm God in a fit of rage, but Ama-no-Iwato cannot be her grave Dear Goddess of the endless sun, our little kami, we can’t force you out But we’ll try with a risqué diversion like a cheeky little dance and some laughs Should arouse your curiosity and give us a chance From a mirror on a tree you will peak a new dawn From Ama-no-Iwato your streak of light will shine down upon us one more time And we shall seize you, return you to heaven and to the shadows we’ll bid adieux

Bush Pilot 03:47
Bush Pilot Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe I’m flying high, I’m flying low. I’m flying any (damn) where that I want to go ‘Cause I’m the bush pilot Well the flies are so thick that the dogs lay low and on this night I take flight due North I’m a bush pilot and I just killed a man, or so I think You see the sun was in my eyes when the shot rang out And I dropped my cigarette that could give me away. But if they ever do find it I will be long gone Out in dead man’s land, in the great white north! Well my body is broken and so is my mind. But like this plane I got me one last flight I’ve got three cases of rye, four cartons of smokes, and it won’t take too long ‘till they all run out Well the bush life will cleanse me, I will dedicate my every waking moment to the actual pursuit Of the three bare necessities, basic essential needs: food, shelter, fire Chase my whiskey with cold, brown Moose River water. This will be my last drink Then it’s me, the trees, the sun and the moon The wind and the rain, and my demons to chase me So I’ll dive in the water, sink to the bottom. I will choke, I will freeze, I will cry But I will never stop kicking, my breath I’ll earn (it) And when I hit surface I will be reborn!

Golden Hat 03:25
Golden Hat Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by PierYves Décoste & Mathieu Lacombe Excuse me sir… -Yes? Have you seen my hat? -No I’m looking for my hat -What color is your hat? Oh it’s a golden hat! It has stripes from front to back, it’s a fine looking hat And no one else in the world has a hat just like that When I first laid my eyes on this pretty piece of gold I felt shivers inside, I could tell it had a soul And since then I’ve been wearing it every single day But the wind blew and it flew away and hatless I stayed Oh I’ve fallen to the ground before but never felt this sore My hat it is gone, have I done something wrong? I spend my days obsessing, I just have to get it back The only thing I can think about is my golden hat Have you seen my hat? -What’s that?! I’m looking for my hat -Oh no I have not seen your hat I would murder for my hat! Will I have to face the fact that I may never get it back? Is someone else in the world wearing my hat? I remember the days when it covered me from rain It gave me self-esteem, comfort and security -Well I do believe all that you say, I wear my hat every day! My hat? -My hat! Your hat? -This hat is not your golden hat! Have you seen my hat? -Good sir you’re wearing a hat! You see this hat, it’s not my hat, I stole this ugly hat!

Plague Doctor Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe Who? I called the Plague Doctor Mr. Plague Doctor please don’t go. Don’t paint a red cross upon my door The white sheet covering my window says your red glass eye cannot see much hope Mr. Plague Doctor won’t you stay? I need to believe that you can find a way Your remedies are doing me no good, (I’ve) got mercury on my skin and I’m sweating it out Plague doctor if you don’t stay, I’ll still be smelling you for miles away For that big ‘ol beak lashed across your face is filled with herbs and flowers Covering the stench of the dead Wax-covered leather layered on your body And a stiff wooden stick to poke at everybody I can start to see you’re not much good for me A mere second rate physician’s what you’ll always be Hey Plague Doctor don’t you go! Just stick around I’ve got something to show you You proved yourself to be worthless, so I’m taking matters into my own hands I’ll burn this town to the ground! London’s on fire I just found the cure We don’t need you anymore!

Wolf & Dragon Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe Fly little dragon, fly far away. I shall see you again someday Fly little dragon, fly far away. Your wolf will be ok. I will howl ‘till the day you return Under the light of the waning moon while searching for a prey The wolf met a dragon, ‘till that day his life was changed They talked cautiously for a while ‘till the dragon had to go But the wolf knew they would meet again, and they did eight days later and he howled! Well wolves and dragons belong together like hounds and foxes do But twin flames they soon became, fire burning in their veins The dragon had to go one day and flew back home And underneath that crescent moon the lone wolf he did howl! The wolf has been roaming in the forest for sixteen days He grows hungry, but does not hunt while his dragon is away As he roams he sings out… Well the wolf went mad with thoughts of those who hunt dragons But he kept roaming for peace of mind was found beneath the trees He called out to the ravens for his message to be sent “Your wolf I will remain and each day I grow stronger as I howl!” One evening in the river, as a duck swam along He washed his eyes for he had wept and he said "I'll wait no longer!" He would travel to that foreign land far away from his home For without the dragon, for the first time, this lone wolf felt all alone. And he howled. Now the lone wolf he would travel for forty six days He grows tired but does not stop while his dragon is away As he travels he sings out… Fly little dragon, fly far away. I shall see you again someday Fly little dragon, fly far away. Your wolf is on his way

The Great Mosdiem Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe I am Mosdiem! -Introducing the Great Mosdiem I am here to entertain, and challenge your mind, I am Mosdiem! -Ladies and gentlemen please put your hands together and prepare yourselves for an evening of magic For my first trick I will need a member of the audience You will witness firsthand the disappearance of a coin Bonsoir Madame would you be so kind to join me here on stage, what’s your name? Ah Frida! Please have a seat right there You see this coin, now it is gone! I have made it disappear, but what is that behind you beautiful ear? -He just threw the coin, we clearly saw it. Then snuck a second from his pocket! He’s not a magician, his act is a sham and I am tired of this shit! I am Mosdiem! I am alluring and mysterious. I challenge reality The Great Mosdiem! I have wonderful magical powers that command at will For my second trick I, Mosdiem, will melt a spoon You see this regular metal spoon, I shall melt it! See it heating between my finger and my thumb, I will keep melting it until the head falls… and… voila! -Bah! The spoon has been pre-bent right to its breaking point, which he held between his forefinger and His thumb. He then worked the spoon until it broke, and what looked like melting really was just the Separation of the broken handle and the head. Now look at this hat, this beautiful golden hat I’ll spin it around, there look inside, you see, you see… it is empty! -Well there’s a rabbit in a cloth hanging on the back of that table right there. He’ll just put it in the hat while he spins (it) now did you see it? Now there’s a rabbit. I’m sorry my old friend but I’ve grown weary of this scam, and I have had one too many drinks… My show will go on! Shazam, Sam Salabim! Now what is this in my hat? Ladies and gentlemen I present to you a… cat?? Ladies and gentlemen, children of all ages. You didn’t expect a cat to be pulled out of my hat, did you? Ah but good sir Theodore here, he did not expect it either I could only mean the magic I do is true You see… I put the rabbit in the hat, put the hat on the table Took the hat from the table, then I pulled out a cat I raise my middle finger to all the people who called me a hack You wanted proof that it’s real magic, well the proof is the cat!

Dig Dug 02:34
Dig Dug Music by the Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe & Pieryves Décoste Latulippe Dig Dug digs all day, and he digs the night away He ties his boots and he ties ‘em tight. He walks ten miles, no rest in sight His pants are torn and his hands are raw but Dig Dug digs all day Then he digs the night away He eats big meals and he talks real loud. With a shovel in hand he stands there proud He sings good songs and he whistles along while he digs all day Then he digs the night away All day, all night, Dig Dug digs his grave His arms are huge, and his muscles are tight He drinks strong beer, always wins a fight Y parle Français, ben ouai l’Français Dig Dug creuse des trous Pis yé creusent comme un fou! All day, all night, Dig Dug digs his grave

Home 02:45
Home Music by The Steady Swagger Lyrics by Mathieu Lacombe & PierYves Décoste There’s a camel in the desert carrying a man Who whips him all day, why? He doesn’t understand He’s just trying to make his way back home again The sand hills change with the winds of the day The dying screams but the camel doesn’t listen He’s just trying to make his way back home After thirty five days whipping did stop The man was dead but camel didn’t care He’s a ship of the desert Lured by the vision of a well and a tree shading sun’s hot kisses He’s just trying to make his way back home

about

An unexpected constellation of tales ranging from the history of the 12 signs of the Zodiac to a man missing his golden hat, or the theatrical monologue of an arrogant magician awakened by his own powers, this 3rd album is by far the most accomplished of their career. Hear the growling voice of a proud Viking narrating the story of the Goddess of light, feel the charm of a storyteller bruised by the black plague and let yourself be transported into the dark and harmonious lullaby of a lone wolf.

As soon as they get going, so does their hungry public. For the past six years The Steady Swagger have been crafting their unique style of folk storytelling grounded by a solid rock & roll foundation. They play a deft mélange of high octane theatrical folk music punctuated by surf rock, jazz, pirate shanties and gritty blues. Montréal’s charismatic power trio has been compared to the likes of Tom Waits, Primus and Gogol Bordello due to their baritone voices, original compositions and fevered energy, and it’s quite the spectacle. Stillness and mayhem. Waltzes and mosh pits. Roaring shouts and sing-alongs. It’s a potent mixture of festive and dark, comforting and angry, comical and dramatic. It’s rugged, charismatic, finely distilled and ferociously fun.
